SLTU WELCOMES MEMBERS BACK TO SCHOOL
WAYNE CUMBERBATCH, GENERAL SECRETARY, SLTU
Let me first on behalf of the National Executive welcome you back to school after the summer break to the 2009 - 2010 academic school year. We wish you all a productive and healthy year as you continue to achieve high levels of performance in the classrooms throughout the length and breadth of this country.
Let me remind you that the education you impart to the students plays a key role in determining their future prospects. Therefore, let us do as our Code of Ethics suggest and “… strive to the best of our ability to enhance the intellectual, social and moral growth of our students at all times.” An old Japanese proverb states “Better than a
thousand days of diligent study is one day with a great teacher." Let us all endeavor to be great teachers this year.
Meanwhile our union continues to fight for economic justice and promote your interests. As we begin the year, SLTU would like to express to you a concern which affects some of our members. There is an increasing trend of attacks on our temporary teachers.
Some of these teachers live in constant fear of losing their
jobs and are virtually held hostage because of their status.
