BSTU Decries Mass Transfers to and From Alexandra School

The long-running impasse between the Barbados Secondary Teachers Union and the Principal of the Alexandra Secondary School escalated to a new level with the decision by the office of the Chief Personnel Officer to transfer a number of teachers. BSTU claims that that the transfers were punishment for "all the teachers, save one" who testified before the Commission of Inquiry. " President of the BSTU, Mary Redman expressed her outrage and utter disappointment while condemning the manner in which the Ministry has sought to deal with the teachers.
The commission of inquiry was called to investigate the claims against the school's administration, specifically its Principal Mr. Jeff Brooms who has been at odds with teachers and their union for a considerable period of time.

ANGUILLA--Secondary and primary school teachers in Anguilla started a "sit in" Tuesday, to protest the way that they have been treated during the past few months. They refused to teach and the Ministry of Education made arrangements for all children to be sent home.
